Vernon Kilns Chatelaine

VK Chatelaine

I love this line.  I believe it was introduced in the spring of 1952; it is a short set (not many pieces).  The pieces shown are in Topaz.  I would love to have the sugar and creamer!  Pictured is the teapot, but it seems tall (10inches) to me for a teapot (but that is what the factory called it).  I would love to have pieces in Jade.

Been digging?

I'm pretty sure you have been going through some boxes as I would have remembered these!  Very nice!

Not digging

The teapot has been on a bookcase in my bedroom for years.  The cups and saucers I just got off ebay (one cup came with a flea bite, but the dealer made good on it).

Nice share! This has always been a favorite set of mine. For years, there was an almost complete set of the decorated Chatelaine in an antique mall outside of Madison, Wisconsin. But, I swear, almost every piece in the set had chips or some sort of damage. I've never seen another set out in the wild.

In the Wild

The first teapot I ever saw in the wild was in Jade with the painted leaves.  The dealer wanted $150 for it (which I could not afford at that time).  This teapot I bought in an Antq Mall...the tag said "Art Deco Coffeepot $19."  It is in mint condition.  The teapot and the cups are not marked; which is good for collectors!

Re: In the Wild

Over 25 years ago I was shopping in a Salvation Army Thrift Store on Fifth Avenue in Los Angeles.  I found a huge set of the weirdest dishes I had ever seen.  The entire set was $75.00, which was a fortune for me at that time, but I bought it anyway.  There might have been one or two pieces that had chips. The rest were and are mint.  I think the remarkable condition is due to the fact that the city of Vernon, where they were made, is only a few miles away.  I have 15 dinner plates, many soup bowls, a serving platter, the teapot, creamer and sugar, the salt shakers, cups and saucers, a serving dish, and salad plates and ALL in jade!  Only 8 cups were with the original set, but I got four more on ebay, although their shape doesn't match my original set.  There is one other collector I know in Hawaii who gives huge parties for his friends using only this pattern.  His collection is enormous.  I met him while bidding on Chatelanie plates on ebay many years ago.
