Vernon Kilns Our America Teapot
Vernon Kilns. [Ultra]. Our America. Teapot.
The Our America pattern was designed by Rockwell Kent who also designed the Salamina and Moby Dick patterns for Vernon Kilns. The teapot decoration is "Indians of the high Mesa are shown herding their sheep", as reported in Collectible Vernon Kilns by Maxine Feek Nelson.
This teapot is not in perfect condition. It has a small chip and some other nicks and wear issues, however; I decided that small damage could be overlooked in this case and it was priced accordingly.

Re: Vernon Kilns
Nice teapot, Clyde. I love the art of Rockwell Kent.
By the way, I love the backdrop in your photo, too!
Re: Vernon Kilns
What a great find! Did you post the backstamp? Looks like a New Mexico pueblo...maybe Taos? I don't have the book... does she mention if this is an entire dinner pattern?
Thanks for sharing the wonderful photo, too.

Re: Vernon Kilns
Each piece in Our American has a similar drawing style, but each scene is unique. So, only the teapot has this particular Southwestern design. In the dinnerware set, one plate has a view of Manhattan, another plate has a view of Chicago--you get the idea. The 17-inch chop plate has a spectacular relief drawing of the entire United States. If you Google "Rockwell Kent Our American Chop Plate" and select Images, you will find a photo of it.

Love the photo, love the teapot.
I'm so glad this less-than-pristine teapot found a good home. If it displays well, who cares? You've just preserved another great piece of modern Americana.
Re: Vernon Kilns
I "found" this teapot on ebay. Perhaps you saw the auction(s) also. The initial listing had the opening bid set at about $250 (if memory serves correctly) but it didn't sell. It was later relisted with an opening bid of $75 and I was the only bidder. It was my love of Rockwell Kent's Our America artwork and a preservationist streak that compelled me to bid.
In my opinion, some of the [Ultra] shapes complement the Our America artwork beautifully. The coffee pots and pitchers come to mind in this regard. I find myself conflicted about the teapot shape. It seems a bit awkward to me but Rockwell Kent's southwestern inspired artwork redeems it.
