Latest Wallpaper Designs. Vintage News. 1935.

Americans used to look to European designs for innovative wall papers. This untitled column notes that American designers and manufacturers are now producing wall papers demonstrating artistry and individuality. Among the mentions includes a wall paper by Russel Wright that features a 'modern design of rectangular blocks and dots.' Name of the pattern, manufacturer, and colors are not mentioned. No photo showing this wall paper. Also of note is a wallpaper by Donald Deskey in a primitive style of flowers and leaves, called 'Congo.' Walter Dorwin Teague also produced a wallpaper that was modern takeoff on a French/Empire style of drapery and leaves.

The beginning of this article discusses the use of geometric patterns in 'lacquered' tablecloths that are well-suited for easy cleanup of breakfasts. Breakfasts were noted to be more informal affairs than lunch or dinner. The photo features one such breakfast setting with a geometric tablecloth. Wooden bowls and plates were noted to be especially practical for informal meals and easy cleanup.

Also of note, according to this article, is the observation that modern designers derive their inspirations from a variety of sources including: the opera, the lastest 'vogue' or fashion trend, primitive art, and contemporary architecture.
