Submitted by modlectic on Thu, 11/25/2004 - 3:41pmI'd love to discuss two fairly recent ebay auctions for complete (and almost complete) Roseville Raymor Condiment Sets.
Red Wing Buffet Royale
Submitted by modlectic on Thu, 11/25/2004 - 3:48pmTwo recent ebay auctions for Red Wing Buffet Royale ware caught my eye (#3760307939 & #3761768478). Both were for multiple pieces that included wood serving stands.

Metlox Luau Teapot & Coffee Server
I think the Luau pattern and glaze colors are very attractive on these Navajo shapes. It took me years to find the teapot and I had begun to question that any existed.

Black & White Denwar Bantu
I don't actually know what these colors are called on Denwar Bantu except that they are new to me and I couldn't find any published reference to them.

Hyalyn Porcelain Casual Craft teapot designed by Erwin Kalla. I've also posted a photo of the backstamp. Found this for $10 which was a fun buy.

A few pieces of Ak-Sar-Ben Ware dinnerware which was manufactured by the Ak-Sar-Ben Pottery Company in Nebraska in the late 1940s (thank you Mike Pratt for your excellent reference books!).

Ak-Sar-Ben Ware Foil Label on Cup
Foil and paper label as it appears on an Ak-Sar-Ben Ware cup. Note that the label is in the shape of the state of Nebraska. Seems fitting in that Ak-Sar-Ben is Nebraska spelled backwards.

Tropical Fish Casserole from the Metlox Tropicana line. Finding this in a western Nebraska antique mall a couple of years ago was a surprise. It wasn't a bargain but the fish design hooked me.

Stetson Hiawatha Teapot
I think the Hiawatha pattern is fantastic and have been admiring the great Holiday coffee pot that youngmoderns recently posted. I found this teapot on ebay a year or so ago.

RMS 178 auction
Submitted by modlectic on Fri, 10/19/2007 - 1:23pmGranted the RMS Steak Platter with Well (#178) is a spectacular piece in "frogskin", but do you think a price of $471 is high or about right?
Seibel Influence?
Submitted by modlectic on Tue, 10/23/2007 - 5:33pmI can't help but think the designer of this pitcher currently listed on ebay (item #330179423921) was influenced by Ben Seibel's work. Is that too much of a stretch?

I'm reasonably certain this is a Heath pitcher. Since it's unmarked, I assume it must be an early production item.

Gorbutt-Bowman? - Unusual Pottery
I've got an odd pot to add to the gallery today. I was told this unusual lidded pot was made by the Gorbutt-Bowman pottery that operated in Topeka, Kansas, reportedly between 1950 and 1953.

Gorbutt-Bowman Pottery
Submitted by modlectic on Tue, 01/15/2008 - 8:23pmIt seems that starting a blog on John D. Gorbutt, Jr. and the Gorbutt-Bowman Pottery Division of Gorbutt and Co. is in order. After learning that a Master’s Thesis on John D. Gorbutt, Jr. was on file at Kansas State University, I submitted a request for a 30-day loan of the circulating copy and picked it up yesterday! The thesis is 157 pages long and includes photos of paintings, kinetic light sculpture and even butter sculpture. I did a quick survey but there’s clearly a lot to explore.
