RMS Condiment Sets

I'd love to discuss two fairly recent ebay auctions for complete (and almost complete) Roseville Raymor Condiment Sets.

Red Wing Buffet Royale

Two recent ebay auctions for Red Wing Buffet Royale ware caught my eye (#3760307939 & #3761768478). Both were for multiple pieces that included wood serving stands.

Metlox Luau Teapot & Coffee Server

I think the Luau pattern and glaze colors are very attractive on these Navajo shapes. It took me years to find the teapot and I had begun to question that any existed.

Black & White Denwar Bantu

I don't actually know what these colors are called on Denwar Bantu except that they are new to me and I couldn't find any published reference to them.

Hyalyn Casual Craft Teapot

Hyalyn Porcelain Casual Craft teapot designed by Erwin Kalla. I've also posted a photo of the backstamp. Found this for $10 which was a fun buy.

Ak-Sar-Ben Ware dinnerware

A few pieces of Ak-Sar-Ben Ware dinnerware which was manufactured by the Ak-Sar-Ben Pottery Company in Nebraska in the late 1940s (thank you Mike Pratt for your excellent reference books!).

Ak-Sar-Ben Ware incised backstamp

Incised backstamp on Ak-Sar-Ben plate. I put question marks after the line and pattern names because I wasn't certain.

Ak-Sar-Ben Ware Foil Label on Cup

Foil and paper label as it appears on an Ak-Sar-Ben Ware cup. Note that the label is in the shape of the state of Nebraska. Seems fitting in that Ak-Sar-Ben is Nebraska spelled backwards.

Laurel Potteries

California Living Coffee Pot

California Living Coffee Pot in Surf Green from Laurel Potteries of California.

Metlox Potteries

Tropicana Tropical Fish Casserole

Tropical Fish Casserole from the Metlox Tropicana line. Finding this in a western Nebraska antique mall a couple of years ago was a surprise. It wasn't a bargain but the fish design hooked me.

Stetson

Stetson Hiawatha Teapot

I think the Hiawatha pattern is fantastic and have been admiring the great Holiday coffee pot that youngmoderns recently posted. I found this teapot on ebay a year or so ago.

Hyalyn

Raymor Capri

Designed by Michael Lax, these Hyalyn Raymor Capri cylinder vases sold recently on ebay. I thought they were too fabulous not to bid on and was somewhat surprised to win the auction.

Raymor Modern Stoneware

Raymor Modern Stoneware

Pair of Raymor Modern Stoneware water pitchers in the Contemporary White and Beach Gray glazes. Designed by Ben Seibel and manufactured by Roseville Pottery.

Red Wing

Red Wing Futura Golden Viking & Northern Lights

The photos of atomicscott's great Red Wing Futura Montmartre pieces inspired me to bring out this Golden Viking coffee pot, 1 quart water pitcher and the Northern Lights teapot.

Red Wing

Red Wing Futura with Dala Horse

With pattern names like Golden Viking and Northern Lights, it's impossible for me to not think of Scandinavia (okay, Minnesota also).

Metlox Luau Coffee Pot

The Metlox Luau pattern on the Navajo/Tempo shape included a tall coffee pot with stoppered lid but I've never seen one.

RMS 178 auction

Granted the RMS Steak Platter with Well (#178) is a spectacular piece in "frogskin", but do you think a price of $471 is high or about right?

Seibel Influence?

I can't help but think the designer of this pitcher currently listed on ebay (item #330179423921) was influenced by Ben Seibel's work. Is that too much of a stretch?

Clyde

Shenango China

Shenango Mobile Gravy

I think the Shenango China Mobile pattern is very compelling.

W. S. George Pottery Co.

W. S. George Ranchero Teapot
W. S. George Ranchero Teapot

This recent find is unmarked but I believe it is a W. S. George Ranchero teapot in the Gael Plaid Tweed pattern.

Shenango China

Shenango Mobile Cup & Saucer

I think the Mobile saucer must be the Colonnade shape but am unsure about the cup. Is it the Wilmington shape?

Recent Finds

Heath Ceramics Pitcher

I'm reasonably certain this is a Heath pitcher. Since it's unmarked, I assume it must be an early production item.

Recent Finds

Red Wing Willow Wind Plate

The Willow Wind pattern was unfamiliar to me until finding this plate. It might not be considered a modern pattern but I find it very appealing.

Christmas

A small holiday gathering of mid-century friends around the fireplace.

Recent Finds

Monmouth Western Stoneware Bowl & Ladle

Monmouth Western Stoneware bowl & ladle designed by Eva Zeisel. I think this is the Pennsylvania Dutch pattern.

Recent Finds

Iroquois Informal Samovar with Stand in the Blue Diamonds pattern. Designed by Ben Seibel. I was surprised to find this in a southern Missouri antique mall recently.

Unusual Finds

Gorbutt-Bowman? - Unusual Pottery

I've got an odd pot to add to the gallery today. I was told this unusual lidded pot was made by the Gorbutt-Bowman pottery that operated in Topeka, Kansas, reportedly between 1950 and 1953.

Here's another view of the Gorbutt-Bowman? pot with the lid removed.

Gorbutt-Bowman Pottery

Gorbutt_Unusual_Pottery_3.jpg

It seems that starting a blog on John D. Gorbutt, Jr. and the Gorbutt-Bowman Pottery Division of Gorbutt and Co. is in order. After learning that a Master’s Thesis on John D. Gorbutt, Jr. was on file at Kansas State University, I submitted a request for a 30-day loan of the circulating copy and picked it up yesterday! The thesis is 157 pages long and includes photos of paintings, kinetic light sculpture and even butter sculpture. I did a quick survey but there’s clearly a lot to explore.
