Matador Plaque
Submitted by spinario on Mon, 08/16/2010 - 10:31pm
Large Pottery Plaque of Matador
Does anyone recognize the maker of this large plaque? It appears to be of a matador. Its very heavy with lots of detail. Its signed MJ. But it also looks like it might say Mo Jm or Mb Jm. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your input!
Re: Plaque of Matador
Eye-catching piece, spinario. I keep coming back to it for another look. Don't have a clue on the mark, but was curious...is this on a white or red clay? It's hard to tell if the white sgraffito is the clay, or perhaps the red of the cape is the clay.
Re: Plaque of Matador
Hello - It is red clay (the cape being the color of the clay). It is large and heavy! In style, it looks Italian to me? But not in subject matter I guess... a mystery...
