Re: Winart
Love that horseshoe handle! And the candy colors of those cups!
Re: Winart
Does that say "Miami, Ohio"?
Re: Winart
Miami, Oklahoma
Re: Winart
I have a friend with a set of the yellow cups. I'm sure she's not seen this server. Will forward pic. Fun.
Re: Winart
I've seen this caddy a few times, but never with the label. Before I knew of Winart, I once passed on a yellow set at auction of six mugs and a creamer & sugar in the same caddy. It's the colors here, these pastel tones, which I rarely see.
Re: Winart
I don't think I've ever seen it with the horseshoe. My set has yellow cups, too.
If you look in the book by Schiffer entitled Frankoma and other Oklahoma Potteries by Bess and Bess (I have the 1996 revised edition)--there is a photo on page 94 that shows inside the Winart Pottery store. On one of the display stands is a larger version of this tray with the horseshoe. On a matching stand there is a tray with the circular handle like I show in my chapter on Winart. The variety of product and glaze treatments is truly amazing. Was this America's answer to fat lava?
Re: Winart
I was thinking that the glazes look a lot like some Gonder pieces, particularly the green.
Re: Winart
Glaze looks like some form of crystallization. Very cool pieces and glaze colors.
Re: Winart
The mug colors and horseshoe-handle stand are great fun. The crystalline glaze is quite wonderful and reminds me a bit of Tamac glazes (e.g. Frosty Pine and Frosty Fudge).
Re: Winart
Here's a Winart horseshoe server set for 6 with the pastel crystalline glazes spotted at an antique shop here in Tampa. I was tempted, but didn't purchase it. If anyone is interested in it, I'm willing to do the leg work for them-- send me a private message.
Re: Winart
Neat! I think I like it better with six, but my set will have to do... ;-{)
