Leigh Art Ware

Bookends
A lucky find for me today! These fantastic art deco Leigh Art Ware bookends were made by Sebring Pottery of Alliance, Ohio. They still have their original paper label marking them as item number 203.

Re: Leigh Art Ware
Amazing!!
Re: Leigh Art Ware
Incredible in every way. The deco label is the icing on the cake! Were these found in an estate sale or antique shop?
Re: Leigh Art Ware
very cool !!!
Re: Leigh Art Ware
These are fabulous! There's some major bookend mojo working this weekend. What a find, Scott!
Re: Leigh Art Ware
So well designed. Also love how the stair step edges of the label mirror parts of the piece. That hand-lettered Broadway-esque font takes the prize though.
Re: Leigh Art Ware
The shapes come together in a classic deco design, but there is also a Froebel Block kind of sensibility going on, too. Someone with talent designed these beauties.
From the information I have found online, Leigh Art Ware was only made for one year or two tops. Making these bookends rare birds, indeed.
I've found a lot of amazing things this year (some I still need to share with MODish), but none have thrilled me more than these bookends. And, the label, with its deco font and stair-step corners, is indeed the icing on the cake.

Great find!
Re: Leigh Art Ware
Only recently did I learn that Leigh produced artware and lamps in addition to dinnerware. Isn't this that artware? How fantastic to have the label mostly intact.
Re: Leigh Art Ware
Wow - those are wonderful!
I have a matching Leigh Ware lamp in mulberry color... will check it out for a label.
