Gorbutt Bowman

Planters
Designed by Jeanne Gorbutt, each of these planters nest into a form-fitting bottom tray. They measure 4.5-inches square (with the bottom tray) and they are marked with a Gorbutt Co. paper label which dates them to around 1953. Their hand-painted leaf design is reminiscent of the work by Sascha Brastoff and Marc Bellaire.

Re: Gorbutt Bowman
Cool!
Re: Gorbutt Bowman
These Gorbutt planters and the vases are just amazing finds Scott. It's very exciting to see the Gorbutt & Co. label.
Re: Gorbutt Bowman
Wow-- unexpected!
Re: Gorbutt Bowman
Those colors and the confidence/exuberance of the lines are amazing. I've learned a lot from the Gorbutt posts. Thank you.
Re: Gorbutt Bowman
Thanks for your comment. I especially like the blue planter where the leaves are so abstracted they become a colorful blur. Jeanne Gorbutt was a talented designer and potter.
Re: Gorbutt Bowman
Very cool share, Scott! I'm loving the labels, of course, but I think I'm most amazed by the fact that the trays are still with the planters...that one or the other wasn't lost or damaged.
Re: Gorbutt Bowman
Just clarifying - the Gorbutt-Bowman name predates Gorbutt & Co.?
Re: Gorbutt Bowman
Gorbutt & Co. predates and postdates Gorbutt-Bowman. Gorbutt-Bowman only existed for a short time when Jeanne Gorbutt was married to Larry Bowman.
Re: Gorbutt Bowman
Oh, well, that clears everything up!
Thanks!
