We have a Midas Quick Reference chart in the library. This would be the B-3 small pillow vase. It was available in Black, White, Blue, Olive, or Terra Cotta Matte.

Thanks Mike. Went to the chart after I got the vase home. Think I was thrown off by the pillow vase reference. Guess I've not seen square pillow vases. So used to Wright's Bauer work.

I went to the catalog and confirmed that it is the shape.

Very cool, Steve,

Especially love the "fish shop" in the lower right!

I've seen this referred to as the "Facade" decoration.  Is that a real name or something tagged onto it by collectors/sellers?

And if it's correct, are there names for the other decorations?

The catalog does call it a "Facade Decoration", but it seems to be more of a descriptive. Some other descriptions include "Elegant Raised Gold Decorations", "Contemporary Elegance", "Decorated Sculptured Gold" used on various group shots. I wouldn't read too much into the phrase "Facade Decoration". Interesting that you heard it called by that phrase. Facade is used in Lesie Piña's Midas captions in the Designed and Signed book.

The front of the 1961 Hyalyn catalog:

Not my idea of the best cover shot for a catalog.

Philip Stetson (owner of Stetson China Company) distributed/represented Georges Briard's designs immediately after M. Wille.

Thanks for that information, Mike.  I also agree with your thoughts re the cover.  Considering that the company presumably was trying to showcase its products, hyalyn catalogs tend to be kind of plain and uninspired.

Are those dusty fingerprints all over that black piece????

The catalog has water damage.
