Paul McCobb Planner Group Desk
I found this great desk at a garage sale a few weeks ago and it had a not so good make over. The color scheme was fine but the application was not great. It had track marks scribbled over the entire surface of the desk. I am guessing a toy car had a great adventure on this old Paul McCobb. I'm not fond of refinishing but this was needed. Due to the surface I had to keep the top and drawers darker. It's not exactly what I wanted but it was more to do with what I had to work with.
The real question is how did a Paul McCobb desk that was made in Massachusetts used in a hotel in Shanghai, China land in a small town in the Midwest? This desk has a story to tell.

Before, not a bad combo but the tire tracks had to go. :)

Re: Furniture
I know what you mean about not wanting to refinish, but I like the way it turned out! Is it missing the drawer knobs, or are they just tiny?
Re: Furniture
The drawer knobs are there and original but tiny. I should have posted a larger image. :) Live and learn.

Re: Furniture
What do you mean by "tire tracks?"
Re: Furniture
A child must have run their toy car with metal wheels all over the desk. There were tire tracks indented in the top surface, sides, back and drawer fronts. Some were back and forth in one area a dozen times. It looked like scribbles all over. Some were deeper then others, an aggressive driver for sure. This car and child had a really good time. :) The previous owner painted the black and stained the top really dark to try to hide it but it didn't turn out to great. I believe these desks were sold for 40.00 unfinished in 1964ish. Every once in a while I pick up a piece that's about to be kicked to the curb due to the condition and give it a make over. Since this was one of McCobb's designs I felt it deserved a second life.

What a great find. Thanks for the share.
