Ford Ceramic Arts

Elephant Snack Plate
Ford Ceramic Arts Mark
Elephant Snack Plate

This 8-inch, elephant-shaped snack plate is one of four that I own in this yellow glaze. It was designed by Walter D. Ford and Paul V. Bogatay for Ford Ceramic Arts of Columbus, Ohio in the late 1930s or early '40s.

Many thanks to our MODish member, James L. Murphy, for helping me identify the designers and manufacturer. James wrote an excellent article about Ford Ceramic Arts for The Journal of the American Art Pottery Association. You can access the online article here.

Re: Ford Ceramic Arts

That is great!  Do you have any idea what sort of cup was accommodated where the trunk and the tusk form a circle?
