Denwar Bantu Coffee Pitcher in Cola Brown

Denwar Ceramics. Bantu. Cola Brown. Coffee server. The shape was designed by Jo Dendel with patterns by Esther Dendel.

This Denwar coffee server is unmarked and was a recent thrift store find! I've already got this shape in my collection but couldn't pass up adding another one.

Re: Denwar

Beautiful !!  I've had to notice the shape reminds me of a (hawk, falcon), with the spout as a beak.

Re: Denwar

It does indeed look like a bird of prey. I was never told by Joe or Esther Dendel that that was the intent, but what they did say was the line was based on the shape of an egg, which was a highly prized symbol in the Bantu culture.

Thrift store find?!

What an amazing set of finds, Clyde. The Spruce shakers now this. Whatever you're doing, keep it up. Thanks for sharing these great photos of your breath-taking finds.

Re: Thrift store find?!

I don't get to thrifts very often and usually don't find anything MCM when I do. Seeing this definitely made my heart skip a beat or two!

What an amazing score.  I'd definitely have snapped this up, even though I probably wouldn't immediately have known what it was - just "something good"!
