Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
Barry,
Hope you don't mind my pointing out the complicated history of trying to date Oiva Toikka Flora pieces. As you indicated he originally designed the series in 66' but for Nuutajarvi and pieces from 66' to the mid-70's bear their sticker. My understanding is that sometime in the mid-70's the sticker you showed was introduced based on the fact that Wartsila owned Nuutajarvi and Arabia. Then sometime in the mid-80's Iittala purchased the company and depending on the shape of their sticker, rectangular vs. oval, indicates the relative age (with older pieces having the triangular shape). I can't tell for sure from your photo but your pitcher appears somewhat wider than the one I recently found. The bowls are also interesting. Regardless, an interesting line!
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
Much thanks Thom. I had difficulty connecting the dots with this one. I was rather sure it was Toikka based on the design and Arabia reference, but everything else didn't make much sense. Especially the Ittalia part. Thanks.
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
Barry,
Figured out the difference between our respective pitchers; your version appears to be the 40 oz whereas I have the 64 oz.

Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
You have my all my favorite stuff! The pitcher is beautiful. And it's great to read specifics on the design too.
Thanks for posting.
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
Glad you liked this Jess. You must think I haven't been paying attention. Aside from that neat Seibel teapot, that I would not have known was a Seibel (or was it marked), I have also very much enjoyed seeing your Raymor Coffee Pot, Lagardo Tackett trays, Rosenthal candlesticks, and that super cool Teak Bird Family. You have neat stuff, but really, collecting is just as much about kinship and research and learning than actually buying. That's what Modish brings to the table in spades. Here's more on collecting.
Thanks for taking time to let me know you liked this.
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
One of my favorite glassware designs! Nice find, Barry!
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
I may replace with better photos, as the reverse side has that "spray" graphic that fans out and up. I also picked up a couple low and hi-ball glasses to match, but they are marked with a different maker, though the decoration appears the same.
Thanks Scott.
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
I have a big collection of this glassware that I have assembled through the years from thrift stores and inexpensive antique store finds (it's amazing how cheaply you can find things when they are unmarked). I bought them as a nice go-along with my Russel Wright Knowles Esquire Queen Anne's Lace. But, they sit packed away in storage for lack of proper shelf space! It's a huge line. Can anyone suggest a good reference for more information on what pieces were available?
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
Scott,
Try this Iittala website https://secure.iittala.com/web/myiittala/159. They list both pieces and colors but I'm not clear if this includes the pre-Iittala period.

Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
That's a great resource - thanks! (up on the right, there are more articles under Vintage Corner - Archive.)
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
We have a number of serving bowls that I bought during the 60's but I think they may be Kosta Boda and have long since lost their labels. I particularly like them because they are so pleasingly tactile. They just call out Touch Me, Touch Me, Touch Me... Plus, they are chip resistant.
Re: Arabia Oiva Toikka
This particular line feels rather fragile.
