Franciscan

After many years of looking, I finally came across the Del Mar covered casserole and it inspired a photoshoot today. Snazzy, ain't it!?

Re: Franciscan

Very snazzy, indeed!

I LOVE those "casserole" shaped knobs.

Re: Franciscan

Why is it that Franciscan dinnerware always looks "just right" with its decorations. In fact, I believe this set would incomplete and boring in all-white, much like Eclipse.

I assume that George James was responsible for the pattern design and its placement on the dinnerware, so that probably explains the perfect symmetry. Does anyone know for sure if he designed the pattern?

Re: Franciscan

George James designed the shape, but have no idea on the pattern. Seems like James was more of a shape designer: on Starburst, he designed the shape but Mary Brown designed the Starburst.

Nice photo, Chris.

Re: Franciscan

Ditto everybody.  The coffee pot is hot, but the casserole is phat!

Re: Franciscan

As a multi-decade collector, I keep coming back to this website for the simple reason that every time I think I've seen it all, I am reminded that I haven't. Franciscan Del Mar falls into that category.  What an extraordinary line - shapes, decal - visual perfection.

Re: Franciscan

Just curious, which glassware do you (or anyone else) use with Franciscan Del Mar place setting?

Re: Franciscan

I use the smoke (though rather greenish for smoke) Orrefors "Rhapsody" because of the slightly tapered cylindrical forms. I have at least one example of every single Del Mar item except for the large chop plate! It's my daily use dinnerware.

Re: Franciscan

Thanks...I like your suggested Orrefors "Rhapsody".  You're right about the tapered form.  New quest!  We love Franciscan Del Mar and hope to make it our everyday dinnerware once we have enough pieces.  Let me know if you have any pieces you're willing to part with.
