The Little Sofa in the Rain
Submitted by MozART on Sat, 01/28/2012 - 8:10am
A couple of years ago I was driving by this small antique shop that catered to primitive items and they had this sitting out front in the rain. Fortunately it had only been there for a short time when I spotted it. I pulled in and asked how much for the sofa and they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. It has no marks on it. I always thought it may have been attributed to Heywood Wakefield but I'm not sure. It was in great condition and still had the original bark cloth upholstry. Maybe some of you may have a few ideas on it??

Re: The Little Sofa in the Rain
LOVE it. I don't usually like blonde wood furniture but this one I do. Were you able to bring it back to life? Are the upholstery or cushions affected at all?
Re: The Little Sofa in the Rain
Fortunately I got to it quickly. It was against the building and under the edge of the roof. The back cushions were dry just the fronts of the bottom cushions were dampish. The very bottoms of the wood legs had some small areas of water damage but i was able to bring it back. The antique shop owners thought it was ugly and basically put it out to make more room for their primitive barn furniture that they specialized in. They sold it to me cheap and I loaded it up and took it home..........not because I needed a new sofa but knew I'd find a Mid-century friend that would love it. The antique owner told me if I found someone who wanted it I would owe him a beer. He got his beer.

Wow, just in time! Nice of you to remember the beer. The stuff friendships are built on : )
Re: The Little Sofa in the Rain
That is STUNNING!!! What a find.
Re: The Little Sofa in the Rain
No idea of the maker but it's gorgeous. Is the upholstery a small town square scene?
Re: The Little Sofa in the Rain
Yes!
